What is steam cleaning carpet? Steam has been used in domestic and industrial settings for centuries. With carpet cleaning, steam is produced by heating water in a boiler (178 degrees C) and the steam is directed to carpet/surfaces at 110 degrees C. The high temperatures instantly kill germs, bacteria and remove dirt & stains in a short space of time with minimum moisture remaining.
Steam cleaning can be used on all types of surfaces from stainless steel to delicate fabrics. It is a superior professional cleaning method, using no chemicals, that has a positive benefit of significantly less impact on the natural environment.
Is steam cleaning carpet the best? The short answer is yes. Most carpet manufacturers recommend steam cleaning. Steam is a chemical-free disinfectant that penetrates both tough surfaces and delicate fabrics to kill bacteria and viruses.
Steam is a much safer alternative to traditional cleaning methods, avoiding the health risks associated with inhaling chemicals. It uses 95% less water compared to normal cleaning processes so we save water resources being able to clean in spaces that normal water can’t reach.
The high temperature steam cleans and sterilises all hard surfaces, removing built up dirt and grime with ease. The gentle low pressure ensures a scratch-free finish and naturally sanitises softer fabrics. There is also zero wastewater.
Is steam cleaning better than dry cleaning carpet? Yes, dry cleaning places harsh chemical compounds or solvents on top of carpets to break down soil. Even after they’ve been vacuumed up, these compounds leave behind a residue which quickly attracts dirt back.
People with skin sensitivities or respiratory issues have negative reactions to these harsh chemical residuals. Steam cleaning completely flushes soils and cleaning agents out of your carpets, leaving them smell and irritant free.
Is steam cleaning carpet better than shampooing? Again, the short answer is yes. Most carpet manufacturers recommend steam cleaning.
Some people find their carpet looks worse after shampooing. This is because when using shampoos, a residue remains. Because shampoo and soap residue are quite sticky, it attracts dirt and grime. This is particularly noticeable in high traffic areas and every time someone walks on the carpet, the soil from their shoes will stick to the residue in the carpet fibres.
Steam is a safer, more effective alternative, avoiding the need for shampoos and using less water. Occasionally for tough stains, a special product may be needed – that’s why it’s a good idea to use a professional to achieve the best results.
